Humorous Phases of Funny Faces - J. Stuart Blackton (1906)-stop motion

As stop motion technique is commonly used in Saul Bass's, Kyle Cooper's and Ethan Lader's work I have inspired to learn their techniques and styles, which were beautifully contructed. And hopefully this will help me produce a high quality of stop motion/graphic motion for my final piece.

I like how Cooper created series of images by using different techniques of filming such as shadow control, close-up shots, dramatic angles and reflection, which gives a really strong effect and sensation to this movie.   The choice of sound effect also helps Seven's title sequence become more mysterious and spooky. Also the font style he's used works very well with other mediums which creates a dramatic sensation that he wanted to create. This has shown me the different ways of filming technique that I can experiment during the development of my final major project.

I like how he flipped graphic images that he created in strip cartoon as well as using a wide range of  technique in video edition, which I believe it brings the images to life and create the excitement to the movie.

Saul Bass Titles for Alfred Hitchcock's "Vertigo" (1958)

As soon as I've seen this title sequence I feel so dizzy, which is the feeling that Saul Bass wanted to create for this film. I like the old technique and style that Bass used. Even though there wasn't a lot of advanced video editing software in the 1950's, he some how managed his skill of graphic motion design that describe vertigo feeling.

As Saul Bass is considered to be a pioneer in animated graphic I like how he presented his graphic images in a form of title sequence which was used to roughly describe the story of " It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World" This title sequence of Bass has also encouraged me to bring my graphic imagination to life.
